AIS Team Progresses to Sri Lanka Finals in Prestigious Change It Challenge

The Change It Challenge is an international competition hosted by Monash University, Australia, that invites students to develop creative solutions for major global issues like climate change and building thriving communities.Yash Nanayakkara, Murad Mubarak, and Minuka Alexander were the 3 members of the AIS team for the competition - they are students who are deeply passionate about climate change and environmental protection, having pioneered and conducted the famous Green Tree Project in December.The team developed an innovative idea - The Black Gold Project - involving the reconstruction and reimagination of the plant supplement biochar into a brand new form. Combining it successfully with new organisms and organic materials such as Tricoderma, the team created the brand new Black Gold. The Green Tree Project: An Eco-Friendly Christmas Initiative by AIS Students

http://ais.lk/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/WhatsApp-Video-2025-12-11-at-11.34.59-AM.mp4The Green Tree Project is an environmental protection initiative by 4 students of the Lower 6 grade - Minuka Alexander, Yash Nanayakkara, Murad Mubarak, and Kevin Subramaniam.The Project is centred around the need to recycle waste in a responsible and creative manner. From early November onwards, Plastic bottles of all sizes were collected from early November where collection points were set out throughout the school. At the beginning of December, the culmination of the efforts of the students was presented in the form of the Plasctic Christmas Tree, now proudly standing at the AIS reception.Along with AIS' humanitarian aid towards the Ditwah cyclone victims, the Green Tree Project stands as a symbol of the equally dangerous impact of the severe waste stemming from the aftermath of the floods.We thank all those who contributed bottles towards this cause - wishing you a Happy, Eco-Friendly Christmas!!!

AIS Students and Board Unite to Support Flood-Affected Staff Members

The Student Council of 2025/2026 of AIS decided to make a financial donation to support 3 staff members whose houses were badly affected due to recent flooding. The Board of Directors also matched the contribution made by students in helping these staff members at this time of need. The Head Prefects handed over this financial support on behalf of the graduating class of 2026 in the presence of the Principal and Heads of Section.
